- Indeo(tm) Video R3.2/QuickTime for Windows 2.0
- Release V3.22.23.04
-
- Intel Raw Video R1.1/QuickTime for Windows 2.0
- Update V1.10.23.01
-
- 04 October 1994
-
- Description:
- ------------
- These QuickTime for Windows components supports Indeo Video Release 3.2
- and Intel Raw Video Release 1.1 under QuickTime for Windows 2.0.
-
-
- Using the Indeo R3.2 QuickTime for Windows Component
- ----------------------------------------------------
- This decompressor can play back Indeo Video R3.1 and R3.2 videos
- converted to .MOV format from .AVI format using Intel's SmartCap
- utility. It can also play back movies created on the Macintosh using
- the Indeo Video Release R3.1 and R3.2 codecs. Videos created on the
- Macintosh must be saved as "Single Fork" files and "Self Contained"
- before they can be played under QuickTime for Windows. Features of this
- update include:
-
- * decompresses videos with sizes from 16x16 to 640x480.
- * supports color depths of 8, 16, and 24
- * supports the fast display modes "Hardware" and "Driver" for normal and
- 2x-Zoom playback.
- * supports arbitrarily stretched and odd dimensioned videos using the "RAW"
- display mode.
- * recognizes when the "Indeo Palette" is used and supports the fast 8-bit
- Indeo CLUT color converter.
-
-
- Using the Intel Raw Video QuickTime for Windows Component
- ---------------------------------------------------------
- This decompressor can play back Intel Raw videos converted to ".MOV"
- format from ".AVI" format using Intel's SmartCap utility. It can
- also play back movies created on the Macintosh using the Intel Raw Video
- codec. Videos created on the Macintosh must be saved as "Single Fork"
- files and "Self Contained" before they can be played under QuickTime for
- Windows. Features of this update include:
-
- * decompresses videos with sizes from 16x16 to 640x480.
- * supports color depths of 8, 16, and 24
- * supports the fast display modes "Hardware" and "Driver" for normal and
- 2x-Zoom playback.
- * supports arbitrarily stretched and odd dimensioned videos using the "RAW"
- display mode.
-
- Display Modes:
- --------------
- QuickTime for Windows has three display modes that all decompressors
- support: "RAW", "Driver", and "Hardware". "RAW" is the slowest and most
- general method. It is used when stretching to odd sizes. The
- "Hardware" display mode is the fastest mode because the decompressor
- writes directly to the "Hardware". In color depth 16 "Hardware" and
- "Driver" are supported for bit packings 5/5/5 and 5/6/5. They are not
- supported for either 6/6/4 or 6/5/5.
-
- QuickTime for Windows allows the user to request a display mode. If the
- requested mode is supported it is used. Otherwise, the next fastest mode
- that is supported is used. Hardware is the default display mode. To
- change the default, modify the QTW.INI file. Change (or add) the Optimize
- definition in the [Video] section. In the following example Optimize is
- set to Driver:
-
- [Video]
- Optimize="Driver"
-
- If QuickTime for Windows is having trouble working with your video card
- you may want to request that it use the "Driver" output mode.
-
-
- Changes since Indeo Video V3.22.22.03
- -------------------------------------
- 1) The CODE segments were marked as DISCARDABLE to improve overall system
- performance.
-
- 2) 16-bit playback quality was improved for "Hardware" and "Driver"
- playback.
-
- 3) DecompressFlags and FormatFlags in the CodecInfo structure were corrected.
-
- Changes since Intel Raw Video V1.10.22.00
- -----------------------------------------
- 1) 8-bit playback performance and quality were improved for normal and
- 2x-Zoom "Hardware" and "Driver" playback.
-
- 2) 16-bit playback performance and quality were improved for normal and
- 2x-Zoom "Hardware" and "Driver" playback.
-
- 3) This component can decompress movies with odd dimensions (width and/or
- height not a multiple of four).
-
- 4) The CODE modules were marked as DISCARDABLE to improve overall system
- performance
-
-
- Software Prerequisites:
- -----------------------
- * Windows 3.1
- * QuickTime for Windows 1.1 or 2.0
-
-
- Optimum System Requirements:
- ----------------------------
- For the highest image quality and playback, the following system
- requirements are recommended:
-
- * Pentium(TM) or Intel486 DX2/66 processor
- * System RAM: 12+ MB
- * Local bus SCSI hard drive.
-
- For best frame rate performance, use a local bus 8-bit graphics card.
- For best image quality, use a local bus 16-bit graphics card.
-
- Based on the application and the size of the video file, some performance
- tuning of your computer's resources may be required.
